Fall Boots: Steampunk

Let me start with a plea: Watch The Guild. Felicia Day’s web series is hilarious. Five seasons of nerding out over RPG with a group of Gamers who call themselves The Knights of Good. There are also great cameos from the geek world. Wil Wheaton, Neil Gaiman, Brent Spiner, Erin Gray, Grant Imahara, Nathan Filion and Zachary Levi have all been in the show. You can watch all five seasons online. Do it NOW if you don’t already.

Season five is ongoing. The reason I mention The Guild is because they have a hilarious story arc this season where Clara (the perky, vacuous SAHM) is introduced to Steampunk. They are described by gamer Tink as “The Eurotrash of the Nerddom.” Clara loves the “clocky stuff” in the Steampunk world, and ends up creating her own dirigible for a costume contest.

If you’re not familiar with Steampunk, the basic concept is an alternative universe where electricity was never invented and steam is the major source of power. The look is pseudo-Victorian, with an emphasis on clockwork. Steampunk adopts the world of Jules Verne and brings it to life.

I love the look, even though it’s over-the-top for everyday wear. If there was any cosplay I’d be willing to do, it would be Steampunk. And now that I wrote that down, it will be very difficult for me to disavow it. Shoot. I don’t think, however, that a good pair of Steampunk-style boots would be too much, right? Here are some of my favorites available now.

  1. Well…I love Felicia Day (thank you, Joss Whedon) & Brent Spiner is my favorite from Star Trek: TNG. And Neil Gaiman…obviously. (He wrote The Doctor’s Wife–my fave episode of this past season, oh my stars.)

So yes, I’ll be checking this out. Thanks.
